The staircase of the King
In XVIème century, this room was the room of Mrs. d' Etampes, favorite of François 1st. Decorated by Primatice, we can find there, as in the François Gallery 1st, the alliance of stucco and frescos, realized between 1541 and 1544 on the topic of the history of Alexandre and Roxane. The principal re_parenting frescos are as follows: Alexandre overcoming Bucéphale, the Marriage of Alexandre and Roxane, and Alexandre saving Timoclée. The style of Primatice is very different from the Rosso's: the stress is laid on the beauty of the human body (Roxane receiving the crown) and on the harmony of the lines (female figures in stucco).
In 1749, Louis XV made transformed the room by Gabriel into staircase to be used as access to his apartment. The ceiling goes back to Louis-Philippe and represents the Apotheosis of Alexandre.
