The 1st room Saint Louis

In spite of their aspect harmless, this room and the following are the more moving of the castle. Named thus in remembering of the stays of king Saint Louis, they occupy the site of a part of the "home of the king" where until XVIème century were the "room" of the king (1st room) and the bedroom of the king (2nde room). Thereafter, the first was the "room of the dresser" when the king took his meal in public in the second.

But, secured by this information, the visitor will have sorrow to recognize an old keep in these two rooms which seem to form one. Because in 1757 Louis XV decided to bore in the thickness of the wall an arcade to facilitate the circulation in this part of the castle. From its reign also the woodworks date from the walls and the ceiling. One owes the current decoration to Louis Philippe, who made install in 1836 a gilded paste board ceiling, and to embed in top of the walls of the tables of Ambroise Dubois (beginning of the XVIIème century) coming from other parts of the castle, and François-Andre Vincent (end of the XVIIIème century). The furnishing did not change since Napoleon III, and is of style and time Louis XIV. The malignant visitor will not forget to turn over and observe the two portraits of Louis XV and Henri IV, whom curiously are tapestries, Goblins. But it is also necessary to give a looks at the large clock, placed between the two windows, whose form will be able to seem well-known. Indeed, allotted to the workshop of Boulle and its sons (about 1725), placed in the part in 1837, it represents the tank of Apollo according to the famous group of the basin of Apollo in Versailles.

Salle saint Louis Henri IV

The width of the arcade, dug in the thickness of the wall, shows well the seniority of these two parts, remainders of the old medieval castle.
